1989 Super Ténéré Rebuilt and Rally Ready

Some bikes just deserve the effort. The 1989 Super Ténéré is one of them. We’ve just finished a full top-end rebuild – valves ground and re-seated, clearances checked and shimmed, everything dialed in. First run back, and it’s running mega. Feels stronger, smoother, just right. What a job to do, but Graham, the old boy, worked his magic. Now it’s never run better. This thing is ready for long tours.

Why go through all this effort? Because the Super Ténéré isn’t just any bike. It’s Dakar history. Back in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, this machine dominated the rally. Yamaha took multiple wins with the Ténéré, proving it was one of the toughest adventure bikes ever built. Desert, dunes, endless miles of punishment – it handled it all. That’s why we got one.

Under the tank, it’s got a 750cc parallel-twin with 10 valves—five per cylinder. That setup gave it solid power and durability, perfect for long hauls and rough terrain. Now, with the fresh rebuild, it’s running better than ever.

We can’t wait to do more. For now, we’re just putting some miles on it, seeing how it all settles in. But this is just the start.
